Spring Checklist

Spring is just around the corner! Everyone has their own ‘To Do’ list for Spring. However, in addition to preparing your garden and getting your ‘Spring Cleaning’ completed, please add the following pertinent items to your list…

Inspect and test the smoke detectors located in your home:

*There should be at least one per floor in your home.

*Make note to change batteries in the Spring and/or Fall.

Clean the underneath of your dryer and the dryer’s exhaust vent, removing all lint and dust:

*Air Duct Cleaning can also include the dryer’s exhaust vent.

Check your water heater for leaks and/or corrosion. Flush out your tankless water heater, if applicable.

Clean or replace the air filter on your furnace.

*Air filters that you can see through are not good filters to use. The easier it is for you to see through the filter, the easier it is for particles to pass through the filter as well.

Inspect and test the thermostat located in your home:

*Make note to change the batteries in the Spring and/or Fall.

Have your air conditioning system serviced and tuned up for the Spring and Summer months:

*See the ‘Importance of Maintenance’ blog entry for more information!

If you have any questions regarding the above information or would like to schedule a maintenance service call and/or air duct cleaning, please call!

***For additional safety measures, keep a fire extinguisher in areas of your home such as your garage, kitchen, and workshop area. The fire extinguisher should be serviced on an annual basis.

Tidbit of History for today:

*In 1923, TIME magazine was published for the very first time.

*In1931, the USA officially adopted ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ as the national anthem.

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.

MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and support services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. With national headquarters in Tucson, MDA has more than 200 offices across the country, sponsors some 200 hospital-affiliated clinics and supports more than 330 research projects around the world.

MDA supports more research on neuromuscular diseases than any other private-sector organization in the world. MDA scientists are in the forefront of gene therapy research and have uncovered the genetic defects responsible for several forms of muscular dystrophy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease), childhood spinal muscular atrophy and several other neuromuscular conditions.

The Association’s comprehensive services program includes diagnostic and follow-up medical consultations, flu shots, support groups, MDA summer camps for youngsters, a medical equipment program, assistance with equipment repairs and resource referral.

Through its national advocacy program, MDA works to make life better for people with muscular dystrophy and related muscle diseases by providing representation in matters of public policy and research advancement, nationally and internationally; and facilitating active involvement in these areas by the people it serves.

MDA was created in 1950 by a group of adults with muscular dystrophy, parents of children with muscular dystrophy and a physician-scientist studying the disorder. Since its earliest days, it has been energized by its number-one volunteer and national chairman, entertainer Jerry Lewis.

Thanks for helping and making a difference!

Please tell your family, friends, and co-worker’s about this as well!!!!!!!!!!

Maintenance

The importance of MAINTENANCE for your heating and cooling equipment…

Save Money Today And Everyday!

  • ‘Extend the life of your equipment’: Equipment not properly maintained will have a shorter life expectancy. Some suggest a reduced life expectancy as much as 50%.
  • ‘Save money every month’: Equipment not properly maintained will use more electricity and/or gas. This equipment can drop in efficiency as much as 50%.
  • ‘Safety’: Each year, many deaths are contributed to Carbon Monoxide and Freon in the cooling equipment has been determined by the government to deplete our earth’s ozone layer.
  • ‘Peace of mind’: Properly tuned equipment is less likely to fail on hot summer days and/or cold winter nights!

*Important Notice To Homeowners*

All manufacturers recommend an annual cleaning and tune-up for their heating and cooling equipment. Some manufacturers factory backed warranties are null and void if their equipment is not properly maintained on a yearly basis. Read the fine print!

It is recommended that your home has at least (1) Carbon Monoxide Detector for every level in your home (i.e. If your home is a (2) story home with no basement, you should have (1) detector on your first floor, as well as (1) on your second floor.).

Do not forget to clean and/or change your filters on a regular basis!!! Things such as smoking, pets, and the cleanliness of your home can affect how long your filter will last! Keep in mind, something as minimal as a plugged air filter can cause your equipment to take a turn for the worse!

As always, if you have any questions- please do not hesitate to call our office and/or ask one of our service technicians during your next visit!

Tax Credits

It’s that time of year again… TAXES, Taxes, taxes!

For those who had installations prior to January 1st, 2011- please check with energystar.gov and your tax advisor to see if you qualify to take advantage of any of the tax credits that were available in 2010!

For 2011, the updated Tax Credit guidelines are as follows:

-Advanced Main Air Circulating Fans: qualifies for a $50 tax credit. However- the fan must use no more then 2% of the furnace’s total energy.

-Heat Pumps: qualifies for a $300 tax credit. However- the heat pump must reach a 12.5 Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) and a 15 Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER). Because heat pumps move heat rather then generate heat, heat pumps can provide up to (4) times the amount of energy they consume.

-Air Conditioners: qualifies for a $300 tax credit. However- the air conditioner must reach a 13 EER and a 16 SEER.

-Boilers: qualifies for a $150 tax credit. However- the gas, propane, and/or oil boiler must meet an energy efficiency rating of 95%.

-Furnaces: qualifies for a $150 tax credit. However- the gas, propane, and/or oil furnace must meet an energy efficiency rating of 95%.

-Rinnai Tankless Water Heaters: qualifies for a $300 tax credit. All models that we install qualify for this tax credit!

If you have any questions regarding the tax credits and/or would like to set up a complimentary estimate for a heating and air conditioning upgrade, please give us a call!

We were at the 2011 HomeFest this past weekend, January 22nd and 23rd. There was a good turnout for those that were interested in checking out our booth for services we provide. Unfortunately, the weather was not as inviting! Thanks for all those who battled the cold weather and stopped out to check us out!

Also, congratulations to Stacy Christian of Urbana! As part of our weekend festivities, we had a drawing for a $25 Best Buy gift card. Brian with Security National Bank (our booth neighbor) pulled the winning ticket for Stacy. She stopped in this morning to claim her prize!
